All food service employees in Whitman County who handle unwrapped foods or beverages are required to hold a current Washington State Food Handler Permit (WAC 246-217). This helps to ensure that all employees are equipped with the Food Safety knowledge they need to help protect the public.
The online training and test are available at www.foodworkercard.wa.gov in English, Cambodian, Cantonese, Korean, Mandarin, Russian, Spanish, Vietnamese and closed caption. After completing the training and passing the exam, you will be able to pay the $10 fee with a Visa, MasterCard, or Discover credit or debit card. Once you've paid, you can print your card. When you click 'Print,' a copy of your card will also be sent to your email address. Save this for your records and provide a copy to your employer at the Food Establishment you are working.
If your establishment has 10 or more people who all need food worker cards and do not have means to take the test online you can arrange an in-person class and test with the Environmental Health Department. The class lasts about 1 hour and includes watching a video, listening to a short lecture, and taking a multiple choice written test. Videos and tests are available in many different languages. Large print and special needs tests are also available. Call or email the Environmental Health Department for more details.
